From the parking lot located above the village of Oneta, take the mule track that climbs between two houses; a few meters ahead turn right, following the signs for Sentino. After crossing the hamlet's small square, you leave the paved road and turn onto the tratturo to the right, a shady path that leads through woods, meadows and old cultivated terraces. In a short time you will reach the quiet locality of Costa dei Lupi, where a characteristic fountain-drinking trough testifies to the ancient presence of shepherds and offers a resting place immersed in silence.
The trail continues as it enters one of the most fascinating sections: in fact, the path passes under picturesque porticoed vaults, descends gently between dry stone walls and then ascends again until it reaches the small rural village of Pradavalle, a nucleus that retains all the simple and genuine charm of the Bergamo mountains.
Once through the village, follow the historic mule track that leads toward the ridge. Here stands an ancient roccolo, positioned on a natural saddle that separates the territory of San Giovanni Bianco from that of Cornello dei Tasso: an ideal transition point that marks about half the route and offers a magnificent open view of the valley.
From this vantage point the walker can choose between two variants:
Pianca and Cancervo Direction
Keeping to the right and leaving the roccolo behind, you enter the dirt road that climbs eastward toward Mount Cancervo. The route proceeds through woods and clearings until you reach the church of Pianca, a natural balcony overlooking the middle Brembana Valley.
Direction Bretto and Cornello dei Tasso
Continuing instead in the direction of Bretto, one reaches an ancient mountain village and can climb to the striking Church of San Ludovico, set in a panoramic position. From here an easy path descends to the medieval village of Cornello dei Tasso, one of the most beautiful and best preserved in Italy.
An itinerary rich in history, nature and fascinating landscapes, ideal for those who want to discover the most authentic soul of the middle Brembana Valley.
