Village of Pagliari

The hamlet of Pagliari, a small stone jewel dating from the 17th century, rises just beyond the last houses of Carona, along the road that leads to the Calvi and Longo refuges and the dense network of trails in the Orobian Alps. It is one of the best-preserved alpine villages: in winter it appears as a single dark block set in the white of snow, while in summer it blends harmoniously with the meadows and pastures that creep through its narrow streets. Located in the upper Brembana Valley, Pagliari is a mountain outpost overlooking the imposing ranges that separate-and once connected-Bergamo and Sondrio via ancient trade routes. Along the short path leading there is the scenic Val Sambuzza waterfall, a must-see for nature lovers. At the center of the village stands the pretty little church of San Gottardo, protector from landslides and avalanches, which guards the memory of this high-altitude community. Pagliari thus remains a place suspended in time, where stone tells centuries of mountain life.
