Lake Piazzotti, located at 2222 meters above sea level near the Benigni Hut, is one of the high mountain jewels of the Orobie Mountains. This small but fascinating alpine body of water lies on the border between Val Brembana and Valtellina, immersed in a wild environment of rocks, pinnacles, high altitude meadows and small pools reflecting the sky. Its dark, calm waters create an evocative atmosphere, perfect for those seeking peace and spectacular views.
The area is also a true paradise for wildlife lovers: it is not uncommon to encounter marmots, chamois and ibex, and with a bit of luck you may even see birds of prey or deer on the move. The lake can be reached from Ornica by taking trail 107, which climbs between pastures and ridges, giving ever-widening glimpses of the Orobie Mountains.
In addition to hiking, the area offers equipped climbing routes and the possibility of staying overnight at the nearby refuge. Lake Piazzotti thus represents an ideal destination for hikers, naturalists and mountaineers, a place to fully experience the magic of high altitude
