Hammer and Mill

The Bolgià nature oasis, which is reached by an ancient humpback bridge, receives water from the Grobbia Valley, which appropriately channeled into a seriola drives the driving wheels of the mallet and mill, reconstructed according to the original physiognomy.
The small bridge and the two mill and mallet buildings, along with the nearby iron forge, form a complex of great historical and anthropological interest and have now become an integral part of Valtorta's museum itinerary.
Active until the years leading up to the last war, the mallet and mill were strategically located at the obligatory crossing point on the road to the districts and thus a constant destination for anyone wishing to take advantage of the then indispensable services of grain milling and the production of work tools.
The mallet building is equipped with all the working equipment: the hammer, forge, grinding wheels and all the other mechanisms (beating mallets with dies for bolts and struts, anvils, tongs, hammers), which enabled metalworking. Also characteristic of the plant is the wind trumpet whose mechanism, operated by water, channels a flow of air into the forge to keep the charcoal-fueled flame alive.
On the right side of the seriola stands the mill building, whose wheel drives the millstones and pestles for corn, rye, and barley.
