The name of Cornalba will always be linked to the Bergamasque Resistance, especially for those who personally experienced the tragic events of November/December 1944 when the fascists brutally killed 15 partisans from the GL 24 May Brigade and terrorised the local population that volunteered their help in the armed struggle against fascism, leaving a trail of death behind them. They set up two machine guns, one in a field and the other on the belfry, plus two mortars aimed at the fugitives fleeing towards Alben where the bare trees offered no refuge in November. Among those killed were 17 year old Gino Cornetti and his brother Pietro, in whose memory the large cross on Mount Alben was erected.
