Mount Grem, at 2,049 meters above sea level, silently dominates the watershed between Val Brembana and Val Seriana. It is a mountain that conquers for the breadth of its views and the feeling of freedom it gives from the very first steps. Whether one climbs from Zambla Alta, along the most popular route, or from the more solitary slopes of Oneta, the environment quickly becomes open, bright, almost Mediterranean in its simplicity.
High pastures accompany the hiker towards the rounded ridge that characterizes the Grem: a steady but never severe ascent, allowing the hiker to savor the path calmly, following the slow pace of the mountain. From the summit, the gaze widens: Alben, Arera and Menna stand out next to it, while farther away, on a clear day, the peaks of Valtellina, the Adamello massif and even the Apennines to the south can be distinguished.
Grem is an ideal destination in every season: green and soft in summer, golden in autumn, often snow-capped in winter, when the most experienced hikers climb it. Its welcoming nature makes it a mountain “for everyone,” but capable at the same time of surprising with sudden glimpses, changing lights, the flight of birds of prey taking advantage of the ridge currents.
The mountain is also accessible in winter, but only to experienced hikers with appropriate equipment; during the winter season it is also advisable to contact the huts in advance to check if they are open.
