The Murales of Dossena: A Colorful Tribute to Local Heritage

The Dossena Murales Project, nestled in the heart of Val Brembana, began in the early 1980s. It was initiated by the local government and was spearheaded by councilor Filippo Alcaini. This vibrant endeavor brought together 30 Bergamasque artists who generously contributed their talents to enrich the community of Dossena.

The creation of these 30 murals unfolded in three phases, taking place in 1981, 1982, and 1984. The project thrived with the active participation of local residents, especially the owners of the buildings adorned with the artwork.
By taking inspiration from the frescoes of the past, the exterior walls of various homes were transformed into a canvas showcasing scenes of rural life. Through this initiative, the town center became a vibrant gallery, featuring images that celebrate the culture, labor, environment, and traditions of Dossena.

Each mural conveys a heartfelt narrative of a world that is slowly fading away, fostering a deep connection to the community's roots.

Visitors to Dossena can immerse themselves in this colorful tapestry of history and artistry, gaining insight into the rich local heritage that these murals so beautifully represent.
